Aloha! It's good to be back! Thanks to Kate for holding down the fort without me. She and I are spoiled having two people to share the blogging load with, so when one of us is MIA it's a lot of work for the other- thanks girl!So guess what? Today is my birthday. Well today as in Tuesday (at nearly midnight) when I'm sitting here preparing this post, not today as in Wednesday when you are all reading it. Let me tell you about my birthday. And don't tune out yet, this totally has something to do with today's post. I promise. I just turned 30. And I'm about to pass out from a food-induced coma. I basically ate my way through the day. Seriously. It all started this morning when my husband surprised me with breakfast in bed from one of my favorite places which included plate-sized cinnamon rolls, sticky buns, and a slab of bacon quiche. I'm willing to bet that just one bite of the bacon quiche alone had more calories than your entire dinner menu tonight. Then my sweet friend Katie took me to lunch at Costa Vida and while she got her cute little mini-salad I stuffed my face with the giant sized version (c'mon, it's only a buck more- I'm all about value). Just about the time I was recovering from the sweet pork finding its way to my thighs my husband surprised me with news that he had arranged a babysitter for the night so we could go to dinner at Tucanos. (Good job honey!) Anyone who's eaten at a Churrasco can understand the food-induced coma from that alone. They basically just hook up a feeding tube to your gut as you walk in and then continuously stuff it with red meat. After rolling me out of the restaurant and using a fork-lift to put me back in the car we swung by the Cheesecake Factory where the husband picked up an 48 lb Caramel Turtle Cheesecake. Fortunately we had friends (which was a surprise, thanks friends!) to help us pound that one down, but are you feelin' me now??! Needless to say I have a date with one of my work-out buddies at 6am in the morning.
Soooo this post/recipe has another half to it and I was going to post them both today, but if I stay up any later to do that then I'm going to have to sit in a jogging stroller while my work-out buddy wheels me around. And that would just be embarassing. Plus I'm 30 now, so I just can't handle the late nights like I did in my 20's. haha. Hmmm...now I'm seeing how long my explanation is and I'm thinking that in the time it took me to write it out I could have been finished with the 2nd post. Oh well- there's no turning back now! You're getting this part today and a bonus post tomorrow! Then you'll get me again on Friday, so there's going to be no shortage of yummies this week. Don't forget to pop in every day!
This is as simple as it gets (sorry to my brother Drew who literally just finished telling me on the phone that he thinks it's lame when our recipes don't have more than 3 ingredients). I told him we definitely have a 3-ingredient or less audience out there- am I right or am I right?? Back me up on that one.

Part 1: Baked Cinnamon Chips
Flour Tortillas (I like the little 6" ones)
Melted Butter
Cinnamon Sugar
Preheat oven to 350.
Lightly brush one side of each tortilla with melted butter. You could use cooking spray instead of butter, buy why would you ever want to do that? Life Lesson from Sara: If ever given a chance to choose between butter or cooking spray, butter wins. Always.

Then sprinkle on some cinnamon sugar. A little or a lot. Since we're doing life lessons today, here's another: If ever faced with the decision to go with a little sugar or a lot of sugar, a lot wins. Always.

Use a pizza cutter to cut those tortillas into wedges. Last life lesson of the day: If you don't own a pizza cutter go buy one. You will use it for all sorts of things you never knew you needed a pizza cutter for.
Place them on an ungreased baking sheet (sugar side up, incase you are visually impared and can't tell by the picture) and bake them in the oven for about 10-12 minutes. You'll see them crisp up. Watch for the edges to turn up.

Remove from oven and let cool. I usually place them on a cooling rack so I can fill up the pan with more, but they can just cool on the pan as well.

When they're done they'll be light and crisp and oh so delicious. These are yummy, addicting little things. You can use them for all kinds of things- try making nachos by topping them with some vanilla ice cream and buttermilk caramel sauce or hot fudge. Or dip them in fruit dip or straight into whipped cream. Or just snack on them plain- they make a great after school snack. My toddler loves making these with me. Even sprinkled with sugar they're still more healthy than a fried tortilla chip and they taste like a yummy cookie!

These look delicious! Growing up, we used to heat a tortilla over the stove flame, slather it with butter and sugar, fold it up and eat it like a Mexican crepe! The crunch on yours beats mine any day!
MMMMM Tucano's! we used to go there all the time when we lived in Provo! It was our favorite place to take our visitors from TX. Now that we're back in TX, we miss being able to go there at lunch time (when it's cheaper).
Happy Birthday and thanks for the idea on what to do with leftover tortillas.
Happy Birthday!! Those chips look dangerously addicting.
Look dang delish! Your birthday description totally cracked me up.
Happy belated Birthday! Sounds like you had a great day! The cinnamon chips look fantastic. I always have tortillas...
yey for tucanos!! i think my hubby's taking me there tonight for my b-day . . . i think we might have to reservations though because of graduation or end-of-finals celebrations . . .
PS - the cinnammon chips look awesome Ü
This recipe actually has 4 ingredients, if you count the cinnamon and sugar seperately. See? You're just fine.
I just made them, and the kids gobbled them up. Yum! We do taco bars for family gatherings, and I'm thinking this would be a good dessert to do with that.
I love to make these and eat them with some frozen mixed berries that have been slightly defrosted (so they're not mushy and gross yet) mixed w/ a little bit of brown sugar. Yummy!
You know what would be REALLY good to drizzle over these? Sweetened Condensed Milk!! YUM!
I love these with fruit salsa!
Happy Birthday! I am all with you in going all out and eating whatever you want on your birthday, especially the big 30! :)
Happy Birthday!! It sounds like you had a very tasty day!!
We are birthday buddies! In age even! I feel you on the birthday food coma. Mine was doughnuts at work followed by homemade caramels and dinner at Goodwood. I've been following your blog for a while and love your recipes.
Oh good one! I make these for the kids sometimes. The other fun thing to do like this is pie crust. I bake it with some butter spread on it and cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on it. So yummy and makes the house smell amazing. Then we just break it up and fight over it!
Try it... your little one will love it.
I was going to look up a recipe to make this to go along with a fruit salsa recipe that I love. Thanks, you saved me the trouble.
Happy birthday!
Home made cinnamon chips sound really good!
Happy Birthday! Hurray for the big 30--we're the same age for the next month! What's a birthday anyway if you can't indulge in all your favorite foods?
Happy Birthday!!
Ok, this and the fruit salsa recipe are going to my file-to make!
Happy Birthday Sara! Hope it was a wonderful one - it sounded delicious! I am Provo right now for my son's college graduation and we will be celebrating at Tucano's - his favorite! I of course will be making a stop at either Cafe Rio or Costa Vida sometime during the weekend!!
Happy birthday!

Lame
haha, you're lame bro! If you tasted these you'd totally approve of the tiny ingredient list :)
Have you made these with the Costco uncooked tortillas? How would I use them? Cook them first. Cool. Then butter, sugar, slice, bake....???? Any suggestions? Happy Belated Birthday!
Jodi, I've often wondered the same thing, but I've yet to try it with the raw tortillas. I'm not sure if they will bake up the same, but ya I'd probably cook them as normal and then bake. Next time I use those I will experiment- let me know if you try anything too!
I made these with multi-grain tortillas, and they were still good! Next time I'm buying the good old white kind, because I'm sure they'll taste even better! My bils were also impressed with these.
Sara,
You are wonderful. Thank you for responding so quickly & leaving a cute post on my blog! I tried the chips with store bought Wilson tortillas. Huge success! Today, I had a couple of raw Costco ones in the fridge with some left-over butter from last night. I gave it a try. I first cooked them as they suggest on the package. I then, let it cool, and forgot to cut it before putting the butter & sugar on it. So, when I took it out of the oven, I cut it up and thought, hey, I have more butter & sugar, so I turned turned them over, buttered, & sugared, and put 'em back into the oven for a couple more minutes. They are super yummy! Seriously though, who could go wrong with more butter & sugar? Thank you!
I made these last night to go along with ice cream. I was trying to replicate an old favorite bluebell ice cream, it turned out to be perfect! So simple, yet so delicious, also gives me a way to use up old tortillas. thanks! :)
These are so good! I couldn't stop eatting them!
I make these all the time, but instead of brushing with butter, I just brush with water. Makes super low-fat chips that I serve with strawberry salsa in the summer.
Totally back you up on the three ingredient or less thing. We live in Antigua in the Caribbean and need lots of portable food for the beach. This one is great! Any ideas on calzone?
Wondering: Could you use CORN tortillas? If you're gluten free? Or is there something else you'd recommend?
Chaviva- I've never tried corn before with this recipe, but I know you can definitely bake your own corn chips so I assume it would work. If you could find or make gluten free pitas those would work really well too.
We made these at our home summer camp with my girls' friends. Each kid got a tortilla shell and melted butter. Then I let them chose an extract to mix in with the butter before spreading on the tortilla. They turned out fantastic with coconut extract by far being the best. Thanks so much!
