It's Christmas week on Our Best Bites! We'll be posting some of our favorite goodies every day this week and we thought we'd kick things off with a very merry giveaway!

We get a lot of questions about the tools, brands, and appliances that pop up in the pictures on our recipe posts. Perhaps the thing that has sparked the most discussion is this beautiful machine. If you haven't noticed, I use it a LOT. Let me start by saying that we are not being paid for our opinions or endorsement of this product- I seriously love my Blendtec Total Blender SO much that I tell everyone about it! If you're not familiar with Blendtec, then you must keep reading because you are probably thinking, "What's the big deal? It's just a really expensive blender." Ohhhhh my friends, this isn't "just a blender".

I've struggled with blender after blender over the years. It was always a battle that ended in me jamming a spoon down in it trying to get the clumps out of the bottom. I always had to add way more liquid than needed just to get everything smooth and even then there was always the random chunks in the end. My life changed last Valentines Day when my husband surprised me with a Blendtec Total Blender. Who knew a blender would soon become my favorite kitchen appliance? I seriously use my Blendtec every single day. I use it for smoothies and milkshakes of course, but it can do so much more than that. It quickly took over jobs I normally gave to my other kitchen appliances. It has programed settings for all kind of things. It's called Smart-Touch Tec-nology™ which means when a cycle button is pushed, the Total Blender automatically speeds up and slows down, then shuts off when the cycle is complete, so recipes turn out perfect every time. Here's some examples:

Smoothies and Milkshakes: This is something I had a lot of trouble with when using previous blenders. Now I can get the perfect consistency and it blends so easily. See my Blueberry Pomegranate Smoothie, Raspberry Citrus Slushies, and Pumpkin Pie Milkshake as great examples.

Whole Juice: One of my favorite features is that you don't have to chop everything into tiny pieces first. You can throw in whole strawberries, stems and all, peeled oranges that are just broken in half, and large chunks of fruit. You can make delicious and healthy juices that are quite economical because you use the entire fruit.

Sauces, Dips, Dressings, Batters: This machine isn't just for beverages. It has special settings to blend things for waffles, pancakes, breads, doughs, and appetizers. I use this setting when making this Fresh Strawberry Sauce.

Soups, Syrups, Fondue: One of the coolest features? The Bendtec Total Blender has such a powerful motor that it can actually heat your mixtures! It also purees them so well that things turn out silky smooth. Like in my Butternut Squash Soup.

Ice Cream, Frozen Yogurt: Yup, you're reading this right. This thing makes homemade ice cream. Mix fresh fruit, a little sugar and some cream and the little powerhouse turns it into some of the best soft-serve ice cream you've ever had. This is one of our favorite things to make on warm summer nights because it literally can be finished in about one minute.


The Total Blender comes with a great recipe book with over 300 recipes in it. I was amazed when I saw what the appliance could be used for. You'll see recipes for dips, jam, salsa, batters, syrups, fondues, breads, soup, sauces, salad dressings, baby food, cakes, pies, puddings, ice cream, juices, smoothies and so much more.

The secret isn't in razor sharp blades, in fact I was surprised to notice that the blades on the Total blender have blunt ends. They're not sharp at all, they're completely dull. It's the power. It has a 1560 Watt motor that will turn ice into snow (and i-phones into powder!) Does it look familiar to you? It's because the Blendtec is what's used in those fancy smoothie shops, restaurants, and coffee shops all over the country. We recently went to a grand opening of one of my favorite restaurants and I when I walked by the bar I saw employees tearing open Blendtec boxes and unloading their new blenders. It's also the brand used by Jamba Juice , Starbucks, and tons of other restaurants around the globe. You'll be using what the pro's use!

People often ask me if I think this appliance is worth the price, and my answer is always without a doubt, yes. Especially when you consider that it can take the place of many other appliances.
