New Year’s Eve Appetizers

Here’s some of our favorite appetizers to ring in the new year.  Happy 2011 to all of you!

7-Layer Greek Dip

I’ve always found that even though New Year’s Day is when so many people resolve they’re going to eat better, I always feel this uncontrollable urge to start the day after Christmas. Between Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the entire month of gluttonous cookie binging merriment that is December, I’m beyond ready to change my ways. Even my husband who mocks the idea of salad for dinner was telling me after Christmas that he was ready for a major detox. “But what …

Reindeer Food for Christmas Eve

I wasn’t planning on posting anything today, Kate and I are supposed to be on a blog-cation!  But I just finished making these and had to share.  See, the stomach flu attacked our house this week, right after it attacked our house last week.  So for almost 2 full weeks I’ve had at least one, and at times 4 people hurled over buckets in my family room.  Needless to say, it put a kink in my holiday baking plans and …

Ham and Cheese Souffle Roll

Remember back when Kate and I went to compete at the Better Homes and Gardens Blogger Cook-Off?  And we told you about all of the amazing food we ate?  Well the morning of the actual cook-off we had an awesome breakfast and this was one of the dishes served.  I remember thinking that it would be great for Christmas or Easter morning so when I got home I promptly looked up the recipe in the cook book.  My thoughts were …

Cookie Dough Gift {and a few fun extras}

How are y’all doing on your holiday baking?  Some people might assume that Kate and I spend hours each day creating beautiful baskets full of gourmet goodies to pass out to family and friends all month long.  And who knows, maybe Kate is the goodie-basket lady, but I haven’t even started holiday baking!  I’ve done a few things here and there, like Peppermint Fudge Cupcake Jars for some girls I visit from church but I still have teachers, neighbors and …

Dipped Marshmallow Pops

I don’t know how it happens, and every year I swear I won’t let it happen again, but every single December, I find myself swamped in the first few weeks of December and then that week before Christmas, everything stops–my kids are home from school, holiday programs are over, treats have been made and delivered, shopping is done, presents have been wrapped, and I’m not totally sure what to do with myself (or my kids). These little treats are a …

S’mores Hot Chocolate

I know. I have issues. A slight addiction to warm chocolaty drinks. I just posted some of my favorite specialty flavors, but this one needed its own post! If you’re in the SLC area, you can tune into KSL’s Studio 5 this morning and watch me whip this up live. Cross your fingers I don’t burn myself or over-do the marshmallows and catch the studio on fire. Not that that would be anything like me… This drink has all the …

Gourmet Hot Chocolate

I love hot chocolate.  Like, really love it. I also love flavored steamed milk.  I buy it in the middle of the summer and the Starbucks employees ask me if I’m aware they sell iced drinks.  I don’t drink coffee so I guess this is my vice.  One of my favorite things to do during the holidays is host a hot chocolate bar.  Sometimes we’ll invite another family over, sometimes we’ll host an adult get together, and sometimes I kick …

Apple Pie Ice Cream

Sara mentioned in her day-after-Thanksgiving post that neither one of us had the Thanksgivings we were anticipating. Because this was our first Thanksgiving in our new house (and also the first time we’ve had any kind of room to entertain), I was so excited to cook a huge dinner for guests. Until my daughter got strep throat the day before Turkey Day and we had to call it off. But there was no way that I wasn’t making all the …
