Easy Homemade Chicken Broth

Before you roll your eyes and stop reading this post after seeing the title, let me just get this out of the way: I don’t make my own chicken broth.  Well, not always. Okay rarely.  You know Mr. Swanson? Well he and I have a very great relationship. I use a lot of chicken broth in my cooking and I practically buy the canned stuff by the case.  It tastes great, it’s relatively inexpensive, and let’s face it- I don’t …

Streusel-Topped Blueberry Muffins

A couple of weeks ago, we got a request for a great, simple blueberry muffin recipe. And I thought, “Um, duh, check the recipe index! It’s totally there!” And then I remembered that somehow, over the last 3 years and nearly 500 recipes, my favorite blueberry muffin recipe not only hasn’t made it onto the blog, but it missed the cookbook cut, too! Some days I don’t know how I can live with myself. You might be saying, “Hey, Kate, …

Quick Brazilian Cheese Rolls {Pao de Queijo}

Of all the foods I fell in love with in Brazil, Pao de Queijo (literally translated to ‘bread of cheese’, how can that not be delicious?) is right up there at the top.  And it’s been tormenting my soul for the past 10 years as I’ve tried recipe after recipe trying to duplicate the taste and texture I love.  You can buy pre-packaged mixes, but they’re not quite the same as homemade.  The problem is that there are several different …

Baked Oatmeal

First of all, if you haven’t entered the giveaway for one of our cookbooks yet, click HERE to do it! So let me tell you a tragic little tale about this friend I had in college. Valentine Breakfast Surprise

I love holidays.  Even the silly little ones.  My kids are at an age where they are easily excited and love any excuse to make a normal day seem a little bit special.  So I decided to surprise them this morning with a fun Valentine’s breakfast.   Share the love people! Something like this really doesn’t take much.  I remember when I was a kid, my mom would put pink food coloring in my cereal milk and I thought it was …

Tutorial: Valentine’s Day Lovebug Cookies

So I’ve been planning on posting some scrumptious little grown-up cupcakes for a long time now, but they keep getting the boot because, well, holidays keep happening and when you stumble across something completely adorable and Valentine’s Day-related, you’ve gotta post it. Because the cupcakes can wait, but people would think I was weird if I posted lovebug cookies in March. Okay, people might do think I’m weird, anyway, but that’s beside the point. I found this idea on the …

Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie

This is one of those recipes that in my opinion, everyone needs in their repertoire (oh, automatic spell-check, how I love thee).  It’s super fast to put together, chances are you have everything on hand already, and it’s a knock-it-out-of-the-ballpark for both kids and adults.  This is my go-to dessert when I’m taking someone dinner after they’ve had a baby, or moved in to a new house, or just need some happiness on their doorstep.  I also love that if …

Oven-Roasted Balsamic Brussels Sprouts

Last week when I was in Utah, I kept joking that Louisiana winters have made me soft–it was burn-your-face-off cold and windy. But really, while I was gone, it was still pretty darn cold here, too–when I finally made it back, I had the most incredibly gorgeous 1 1/2-hour drive home from the airport where it was clear and cold and the trees, especially the ones in the swamps, were all covered in ice. When I got out of the …
