Orange-Kissed Cookies

Over the last three years since our little blog was born, there have been a lot of changes, but a few things have always stayed the same: an orange segment and the colors blue and green.  So I totally giggled when I uploaded these pictures to my computer and realized that I had made orange cookies with blue and green in the pictures.  This blog has totally infiltrated my subconscious. I hesitate calling these bad boys cookies because they have a texture …

Strawberry Spinach Salad

I mentioned on Monday that this salad comes from my sister-in-law Stephanie.  She used to make it in my post-marriage, pre-reproductive years, which was also the time when I first discovered this total cooking obsession that has kind of taken over my life in the best way possible.  This salad was my first venture into the world of “foodie-ness”–it was not the typical bowl of chopped iceberg and shredded carrots with a bottle of ranch that you so often see at …

March Madness!! {Plus, How To: Create a Color-Themed Table}

Kate and I both attended Brigham Young University and the boys of our Alma mater beat Gonzaga last week, securing a spot in the Sweet 16.  They take on the University of Florida this week- and guess where?  The Big Easy.  So of course we have to throw out a little Cougar-love on OBB!  And if you’re not a BYU fan, no worries- I thought this was the perfect opportunity to show some things that can be customized for any …

Lemon Poppy Seed Vinaigrette

In the past few weeks, we’ve gone from winter to summer in Louisiana with spring barely making an appearance.  Or maybe it did, but I was so busy with book and blog stuff that I missed it.  Either way, I’m a little bummed and it’s hot outside.  And if you were reading our blog last summer, you know how much I love summer in Louisiana.  Let’s just say that I’m already looking into ways we can get away this summer …

Glazed Bacon-Wrapped Meat Loaf

I’ve told you before that I have a weird habit of watching shows on the Food Network while working out.  The other day I was sweating my cookie-pie filled love handles off on the treadmill while watching Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.  They were at some little hole-in-the-wall that was famous for their meatloaf sandwich.  Not only have I never had (or had a desire to have) a meatloaf sandwich in my entire life, but I have only made meatloaf one …

Bananas Foster Bread Pudding

So I totally get that tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day.  If I were with it and awesome, I’d have adorable little leprechauns sculpted out of homemade fondant or something like that.  Instead?  Yeah, I’ve got Bananas Foster Bread Pudding, which, in spite of my Irish heritage and the fact that I’m completely smitten with Irish culture, is not Irish (or even green) in any way. So wanna hear some Kate factoids?  First, I use the internet for good (blogging) and …

Celebration Balloon Wreath

Today’s post seems fitting because we have so much to celebrate this week!  In honor of Kate, we’re partying for Mardi Gras (ya know, good girl style, with fried carbs instead of inappropriate flashing and public drunkenness) which also coincides with Brazilian Carnival, something dear to my heart (again, make some Brazilian Lemonade don’t wake up in a gutter somewhere in Rio…) PLUS, in the next day or two we’re hopping on planes to Salt Lake City for the launch …
