Greek Salad Dressing & Marinade

If you guys haven‘t noticed, Sara and I both have things that we just seem to love whipping up in the kitchen. Chances are if it is crafty or involves beans, cumin, and lime juice, it’s going to come from Sara. Me? I love making up soups and salad dressings (although not together because that would be super weird). Apparently, however, I have some commitment phobia when it comes to salad dressing. I’ll frequently say something is my new favorite …

Glazed Lemon Bars

Lemon bars are one of those things like Lost and Oprah that I know, in theory, I should love, but when it comes down to it, there’s something about them that I struggle with. Hey, I dedicated a lot of my soul to Lost only to be left sad and confused. I thought I was over last year’s series finale, but watching this video just made me super mad all over again. J.J. Abrams and Carlton Cuse, you’re on my …

Asian BBQ Chicken

Now that summer weather is finally starting to peek out in my neck of the woods, I’m pulling out some of my most favorite grilling recipes.  This one is on my most-requested list. That may be because I make it so often for company. And that may be because it’s always a reliable hit. It’s one of the very first recipes I ever posted here on the blog and it was long overdue for a photo makeover!  If you haven’t …

Cheesy Garlic-Herb Bread

You know how you read everywhere to never, ever put anything in your ear? Well, have you ever had an ear infection as an adult? It makes that rule really, really tempting to break, especially when your ear is all plugged up, even after antibiotics, steroids, yawning, plugging your nose and blowing, and jumping up and down with your ear pointed up to the ceiling. Last week, I started reading online for ideas to help pop my ear and lots …

Mango Quinoa Salad

Who else watches The Biggest Loser? I remember the first time they started promoting it years ago, when there was nothing like that on tv, and I thought it seemed like such a horrible idea.  Who flaunts people’s weight problems on national television for entertainment?  Do you remember that?  The idea was sort of shocking.  Now of course, like so many others, it’s one of my most favorite shows.   Even though half the time I watch it while eating …

Carrot Cake Supreme

First, I want to thank you guys so much for all your thoughts and well-wishes for our family over the last couple of weeks! My husband’s gallbladder problem turned out to be more serious than they originally thought and he wound up in the hospital for a week, so I appreciate Sara picking up my slack last week while I single-handedly kept our local gas stations and fast food restaurants in business. He’s home and doing much, much better, thank …

How To: Cook Quinoa

If you read our blog regularly, then you should know that we strongly believe in the “everything in moderation” principal.  One of our biggest pet peeves is when people claim we don’t post healthy food, or that they’d love to cook food from our blog but they’re on a diet or trying to eat healthy.  Our blog is FULL of healthy food and also recipes that can be easily adapted to be more healthy.  Our entire approach to cooking is …

Old-Fashioned Chocolate Layer Cake

I don’t need to do a lot of explaining today since I sang my chocolate cake praises in my last post.  If you missed it, this is the cake recipe that goes with this chocolate frosting that I could eat plain from a bowl. The cake was on the cover of the “All-Time Best Recipes” Collector’s Edition from Cook’s Illustrated.  My one piece of advice is that you take the time to follow all of the steps as written.  What …

Old-Fashioned Chocolate Frosting

I’m pretty sure something biological happened to me about the same time I became a mother.  At least that’s when I remember it happening.  That was the point when I realized I couldn’t live without chocolate.   I found myself thinking about chocolate, craving chocolate, scouring my pantry for spare chocolate chips that may have fallen out of a bag at some point and landed in some random corner.  And I wouldn’t by any means call myself a chocolate snob …

Teriyaki Chicken Salad Sandwiches

Don’t worry, those of you who have been around from the very beginning–your eyes aren’t deceiving you. This is a recipe I posted way back in the early, early days of the blog (back when we were The Daily Bite!) I have exactly 1/2 of a recipe ready to post and it is awesome. Unfortunately, right after I pulled the cakes out of the oven and set them out to cool, we got a call from the hospital saying my …
