November 2011

Creamy Chocolate Fudge

I am an admitted holiday slacker. You know how Sara spends 3 days decorating her house for every holiday and says things like her epic Valentine’s Day breakfast are no big deal? I would love to be awesome like that, but alas, I am not. I am a low-key holiday-er. Now, granted, we just got back from vacation… and during the last few days of our vacation, I caught a little virus and haven’t been feeling great. And even though …

Time Out For Women 2012

Since Kate is making her way back from the happiest place on earth, and I’m still recovering from having my kids home all day on a 9 day holiday break aka spend all day in our jammies, go on a laundry strike and trash the house spree a lovely Thanksgiving week, we wanted to make a quick announcement today and then we’ll be back in the kitchen cooking and crafting this week.   We are really excited to announce that …

Happy Thanksgiving!

Or rather, Happy Thanksgiving week- since it’s Monday  Kate is off vacationing, and I’m at home with my kids out of school all week, so we thought we’d leave you with a few of our favorite Thanksgiving dishes today since everyone seems to be in planning mode already. I’m going to skip all the fancy descriptions and just show you pictures of the things that usually show up on my holiday table.  These are my faves!  No one minds if …

Flower Turkeys

Our little Oreo Turkeys were such a hit last Thanksgiving that I wanted to find another crafty turkey project to make and share this year.  And I found it.  I’m so in love with these little guys; and they’re so easy!  I found the idea on our good friend Steph’s blog, Crafting in the Rain. Steph is one of the craftiest (and kindest) people I know and always has such fun little projects that inspire me.  I made 5 of …

Sausage Cornbread Dressing

Until recently, I had very few (and always unpleasant) experiences with cornbread dressing. First: Cold oyster stuffing (made with canned oysters), actually stuffed inside the bird, sitting on the counter for several hours. So wrong on so many levels. Second: the Side Dish of Choice at Southern Thanksgiving. And it was always kind of gummy with a weird aftertaste. While I have been able to get on board with many Southern culinary traditions (hello, meat pies!), cornbread dressing has just been …

Layered Pumpkin Pie Toffee Cheesecake

Choosing a check-out line at the grocery store is a fine art.  I’ve learned to recognize the store employees where I shop and know which ones are the fastest.  When Walmart is packed I can tell when they’ve grabbed the guys from the tire center to ring up groceries and avoid all of them if I have any produce.  I can often tell just by a woman’s purse if she’s going to jump back to 1985 and bust out a …

Italian Beef Stew

Happy November, everybody! Can you believe 2011 is almost over? I’m kind of freaking out over here. The good news is Halloween is over, fall is in full-swing, I can post soup and stew recipes and feel good about myself, and Thanksgiving (aka my favorite holiday) is on its way. My friend told me about this stew and promised it was lick-the-bowl worthy. We already have a Beef Stew recipe that we love, and I still maintain its awesomeness, but …

Pumpkin-Ginger Pizookies

I had a long list of things I wanted to post today.  White Chunk Macadamia Nut Cookies, Hawaiian Style Short Ribs, Huli Huli Chicken, Coconut Ice Cream…Can you tell where my mind is? I’ll help you out; it’s right here: That was the sunrise this morning. I’m playing hookie (like, from life- seriously you should all try it) this week and spending some time relaxing and playing with my husband and two of our best friends in one of our favorite …
