Happy New Year’s Eve 2012!

The new year is always an interesting time for me–sometimes I’m sad the year is over and sometimes I’m relieved, excited to get a fresh start. I’m feeling a little bit of both this year. Sara posted on her personal Facebook yesterday that she has boarded 42 planes this year. If I’m calculating it right, I’ve boarded 37. It’s really not nearly as glamorous as it sounds. We’ve published our 2nd book in as many years, spoken in 8 cities …

Overnight Baked French Toast

First of all, today is cause for celebration.  It’s December 21st and the world didn’t come to an end.  Take that Mayans. Right about this time every year we start getting emails and Facebook requests asking us what we serve in our own homes on Christmas morning.  At my house growing up and now with my own little family it’s always been an “overnight meal.”  Everything is made the day before so all that needs to be done on Christmas …

New Orleans-Style Pralines

I kind of can’t believe that we’ve lived in Louisiana for almost 5 years. In some ways, it feels like we just barely moved here and in others, it feels like so much life has happened here–when we left Utah, my daughter was a baby, just a little bit older than Baby Willbo is now, and my oldest son had just turned 3. Since we’ve lived here, Sara and I started this little cooking blog, 2 kids have made it through …

Soft Gingerbread Sandwich Cookies with Lemon-Creme Filling

Did any of you catch us in this month’s Parenting magazine?  I keep forgetting to tell you about it, so here it is: Pocket Protein, baby!  They wanted me to pick one item that I always, always keep stocked in my fridge and use for quick and easy meal prep.  I didn’t hesitate before answering: eggs.  One of the most versatile things in the kitchen-  you can see lots of our popular egg dishes by clicking here. Alright, onto cookies.  …

Butterbeer {& Salted Butterscotch Sauce!}

As you guys may have noticed from some of my posts, I have a tendency to kind of maybe blur the lines between fiction and reality. I love to read (although, thanks to this guy, if I try to read anything more substantial than Entertainment Weekly, I fall asleep in about 5 minutes. And yes, that was just a shameless picture of my baby. Come on, he’s wearing a sock monkey jacket–how could I not?!) Anyway. Blurring reality. Fact and …

Sparkly Fruit Gummies

A few months ago we launched our new cook book with a big ol’ party at our favorite cooking store, Orson Gygi in Salt Lake City.  Hundreds of you showed up to say hello, have some munchies, and celebrate with us. (Thank you!)  It was seriously one of the best days ever.  Since neither Kate nor I live in Salt Lake City, every time we do an event at Orson Gygi we stock up on goodies for ourselves.  This past …

Chocolate-Peppermint Thumbprint Cookies

I’m gonna admit something that could get me into lots of trouble–the holiday season can stress me out. I feel like I’m being pulled in 10 million directions, and as my kids have gotten older, it’s only gotten worse; believe it or not, the kindergarten kids, which include my daughter, will be going to see The Polar Express (hello, creepiest movie EVER) in the movie theater followed by lunch at Outback. 100 5-year-olds. At Outback. The idea of it makes …

Lasagna Soup

(If you missed our awesome giveaway post yesterday, check it out here!) Whenever we do interviews for magazines and newspapers and things like that, we somehow always end up talking about what draws us to food and cooking.  And for me, although the creative aspect is largely appealing, when it comes down to the heart of it, it’s all about the emotional connection.  I love how food can bring people together, and soothe hearts, and show those you care about …
