Salted Peanut Butter Pretzel M&M’S Cookies

I don’t know about everyone else, but
summer vacation in this house went by way
too fast. We’re suddenly approaching the
start to a new school year and getting ready
to jump back into the daily routine of
packing lunches and doing homework, and
important things like actually getting
dressed before noon. Last year was my
first year with a kiddo in all day school.
My little first grader loved it.  As an
incredibly social kid, the moment he walked
in …

Beef & Green Bean Stir-Fry

Pretty much my favorite healthy weeknight meals are all stir-fries; I love that I can prep all the ingredients earlier when the day when baby Willbo is napping and when I’m not exhausted and overwhelmed in the after-school rush. I love that they’re loaded with fresh veggies and lean proteins, and yet they taste so good that you don’t feel deprived and sad. I love that I can feel that nerdy thrill of satisfaction when I use up all that …

Buffalo Chicken Macaroni Salad

First of all, we need to announce the winner from our giveaway! The winner is #1334, Kelly! Congrats, girl! So as many of you noticed last week, we’re working with Kraft over the next month to bring you a whole slew of new (primarily dinner) recipes. Here’s the deal; our blog is a little sliver of our lives, but it comes from a genuine place. On Our Best Bites, you can find fancy food snobbery, you can find down-home goodness, …

Sweet Orange-Berry Butter

I just got home from a wonderful, whirlwind trip to my hometown of Seattle.  We actually started out in Portland (another favorite city) where my husband and I spent our newlywed years.  If you follow me on Instagram, you saw that my little sister, the baby of the family, got married to her sweetheart in a beautiful ceremony on Friday. Kate’s mother-in-law, a good friend of my family, actually did all of the wedding flowers!  She did my flowers too, …

Grilled Greek Pizza

I promise, I’m going to stop blogging about the food I ate in Hawaii…sometime…soon. But I’m not lying, you guys, some of the most delicious food I’ve eaten in my entire life was while we were on that trip. I think part of why that was kind of surprising to me was that most of this amazing food wasn’t on the west side of the island, which is where most of the tourists go–it was on the east side of the …

Southwest-Chipotle Chili Mac

When I was a kid, one of our family’s favorite meals, and one of the first things I learned how to make by myself, was a creation we called “Cowboy Grub.”  Don’t ask me how we came up with that name, but my Mom would make a box of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese and when it was all done, she’d crack open a can of chili and stir them together and top it with some shredded cheddar cheese.  I have …

Kalua Pork Sliders with Pineapple-Mango Slaw

Did you guys all enter our current giveaway?  It’s a random, we-feel-like-buying-someone-a-present giveaway.  No strings attached.  So enter it and share it; spread the love! As you probably know, Kate and I both went on Hawaiian vacations this summer (you can see a little of Kate’s here, and a little of mine, here.)  I think that has contributed to us both having tropical food on the brain lately.  Kate posted her Kalua Pork last week and I’m not kidding; it’s …

Happy Friday! Surprise Giveaway!

Okay,  guys and dolls. Sara and I have had quite a week–sleepless nights, teething babies, impending weddings (of immediate family members, not ourselves), technical difficulties, the start of school, and us working like crazy behind the scenes on some projects that kind of hit us all at once. Add George Clooney and it would have been The Perfect Storm. My bigger kids are heading back to school today and I’m taking a deep breath, catching up on, like, 5 episodes …

Slow-Cooker Kalua Pork

So I mentioned last week that my family recently came home from Hawaii. Yes…my family. Before we went, pretty much the first question everyone asked was, “Are you bringing your kids?!” And when I told them that we were, their reactions ranged from horror to befuddlement to speechlessness to asking us why or telling us they were sorry. It’s okay. We probably were crazy, and true, it wasn’t a the Hawaiian fantasy of lying on the beach sipping tropical drinks. …

Lunchbox Notes {Free Printables!}

Someone please tell me what happened to summer break.  It’s August.  We’re officially on the back-to-school countdown; my kids head back to the classroom in about 2 weeks and I think Kate’s are starting at the end of this week.  I grew up in Seattle, where school never started before Labor Day, so all of this go-to-school-during-August stuff really throws me off.  It’s like pumpkin candles in July; just seems out of place. (That doesn’t stop me from lighting pumpkin …
