Spicy Roasted Chickpeas

So we’re I’m kind of flip-flopping my posts here–this recipe really belongs back in January with all the healthy recipes and Monday’s French Toast really belongs here today because, let’s face it, legumes tossed in garlic are not the most romantic little things in the world, no matter how tasty they are. Sara and I are flying to Utah and back this weekend, so we might be a little slow responding to emails and questions. Well…slow-er. I’ve also found that …

Valentine’s Day Printables {Plus Tin Can Treats!}

This past Christmas my cousin Cami texted me a picture of some cute paper bags she made with a “Just Popping By” message. I had already come up with my Valentine popcorn idea (I’m a food blogger- my mind is always on the next holiday!) so I started working on these tags to go with it. So here’s some ideas for how you can use these tags. They obviously work great with the fun Valentine Popcorn mix, but you can …

Cinnamon Cookie Crunch Popcorn

You know what one of the hardest parts about writing a cook book is? Not sharing every new amazing recipe we come up with here on the blog. I couldn’t resist with this one, and technically I’m not giving away all of the surprises because this is actually just a little variation of one of our new Valentine recipes in our next book (did we mention it’s themed by season?) One of my favorite flavor combinations is cinnamon and chocolate. …

Cream Cheese-Stuffed Lemon French Toast with Strawberries

First of all, if you tried to access the blog yesterday, we are so sorry about the downtime–our server was down and it was pretty rough for us to sit back and not be able to do anything about it. Thanks so much for being patient and we hope you’ll forgive us–we can pay you in cupcakes if necessary… :) I know that it’s technically still January and we’re still technically in healthy eating month, but Valentine’s Day is also …

15 Fantastic Dips for Super Bowl Sunday {or any day!}

With the Super Bowl XLVI just around the corner, we thought it would be fun to put together a post full of our favorite party foods. So naturally, I started with some dips, and then quickly realized I could fill a whole post with just those! So I decided to skip the rest and just highlight our favorite dips, because often those are the hit of the party anyway. So grab a bag of chips and a big crusty baguette …

Kate’s Power Smoothie

Yeah, I know, that’s probably the cheesiest recipe title ever written. I’m sorry. I generally have a zero-tolerance policy for cheesiness. And yet…here we are. This smoothie and I have a special relationship and like all special relationships, there’s room for a little PDA, right, schnookie wookums? I’m also trying really, really hard not to make every single one of my posts about being pregnant because I realize that the world is not pregnant with me and I also realize …

Mini Puffed Oven Pancakes with Berry Sauce

One of my goals in life is to somehow make miniature versions of every food ever made. Okay not really, but I do sort of have a little obsession with miniaturizing things. I love puffed pancakes (aka Dutch Baby, German Pancake, etc.) and as I was making Brazilian Cheese Rolls the other day, I realized they have a similar batter, which made me think I should try little bite-sized versions of these too. Lots of people make these in a …

Honey-Ginger Glazed Tilapia

We’ve talked about fish before. All our fishy issues. Sara doesn’t like it. My husband doesn’t like it. My son loves it, but my daughter hates it. It’s hard for me to cook seafood because I’m not a short-order cook, so I refuse to make separate meals for everyone in the family, but I also truly understand not loving fish because I didn’t like it at all growing up and I don’t want to subject my family to the same …

Roasted Garlic-Parmesan Cauliflower

Last week in my post about the cheesy pasta bake, I mentioned that I’m not a huge cauliflower fan. I didn’t eat it much growing up and I’ve never been able to swallow it raw as an adult. But then a few years ago I tried cauliflower puree, back when it was all the rage and people tried to convince you it was a perfectly acceptable low-carb substitution for mashed potatoes and no one would ever know it wasn’t potatoes because it …

Italian Potato-Sausage Soup

Sara and I have talked a lot about how much we love the magazine Cooking Light. One of the things that is so appealing to me about their recipes is that it’s more like “cooking lighter”–no artificial sweeteners instead of sugar or black bean purees instead of chocolate; they use real ingredients to make real food, and while they may not always be 200 calories or less or completely carb-free, the recipes teach you how to make some of your …
